Blog #6 - Beginning of the Neighborhood Project
Throughout this week I have been working hard to complete my project with Destination Cleveland. My responsibility is to take videos and photos of the districts in Downtown Cleveland. This included Cleveland State University all the way to The Flats. Every day I needed to create an itinerary for each restaurant and attraction I will visit. The purpose of this project is to show potential visitors and future residents the hidden gems of Cleveland. I took the videos and photos on my phone to showcase Cleveland in an authentic and relatable way. This helps the audience picture themselves traveling to Cleveland without the superficial marketing feel. I started my week by visiting the Campus District which includes Cleveland State, Wolstein Center, and local businesses. While videotaping the surrounding area, I needed to think as if I was a tourist in the city. I needed to capture the places that would be interesting to visitors, not what was interesting to me. During my time walking around the district, I learned more about the hidden gems in Cleveland, and visited places I had never been before. This project has not only allowed me to learn more about photography and videography, but has also allowed me to learn more about Cleveland and what it has to offer.
On Tuesday, I meticulously planned my day since there were specific events occurring only on Tuesdays. Public Square holds Food Truck Tuesdays every Tuesday in the summer months. I knew I needed to plan my day around this event since it only happens once a week and many people would be in attendance, making the content more vibrant and exciting. This required previous research and preparation in order to execute correctly. Having to be prepared in advance helped me develop organizational and research skills. I have enjoyed exposing myself to Cleveland’s culture while also cultivating new skills that I can use throughout my life.
