Blog #8 - Final Reflection

Image
As I reflect on my senior Hawken project, I am proud of the progress I have made and my development within the film and marketing industry. When I first started my journey as an intern for EZ Media Productions, I envisioned myself learning more about the technical aspects of videography and photography with the intent to use what I’ve learned for my own photography business. However, after a few Zoom sessions and participating in activities with my mentor, I realized that the project was going in a direction that didn’t suit my interests. I made the tough decision to pivot my project and search for an alternative option. With the help of the mom, I found an in-person opportunity with Destination Cleveland. With this opportunity, I was able to explore my interests in videography, photography, business while also promoting the city I love. I am very grateful for my mentor Lexi Hotchkiss who was willing to take me in as her shadow last minute. Her guidance, support, and organization...

Blog #7 - More Experience

Image
Towards the end of the week and into Memorial Day Weekend, I continued to work towards finishing my project. Some of the activities that I participated in included attending the Guardians game, Walnut Wednesdays, visiting local businesses in the Arcades, and eating at East 4th Street. These activities represent some of the most iconic places to visit in Cleveland. Capturing these areas are vital in order to provide potential visitors with an exciting and authentic viewpoint of Cleveland. In addition to working on my Downtown Districts project, I also attended multiple meetings with the Destination Cleveland team, and also helped with one of their video shoots. On Thursday, a third-party video production company came into Destination Cleveland to shoot a promotional video for a visual content marketing software company called CrowdRiff. Destination Cleveland uses CrowdRiff to sift through public posts on Instagram to use for their own promotional use. On CrowdRiff, they ask for th...

Blog #6 - Beginning of the Neighborhood Project

Image
Throughout this week I have been working hard to complete my project with Destination Cleveland. My responsibility is to take videos and photos of the districts in Downtown Cleveland. This included Cleveland State University all the way to The Flats. Every day I needed to create an itinerary for each restaurant and attraction I will visit. The purpose of this project is to show potential visitors and future residents the hidden gems of Cleveland. I took the videos and photos on my phone to showcase Cleveland in an authentic and relatable way. This helps the audience picture themselves traveling to Cleveland without the superficial marketing feel. I started my week by visiting the Campus District which includes Cleveland State, Wolstein Center, and local businesses. While videotaping the surrounding area, I needed to think as if I was a tourist in the city. I needed to capture the places that would be interesting to visitors, not what was interesting to me. During my time walking around...

Blog #5 - Meeting the Team

Image
Throughout my time with Destination Cleveland, I had the privilege to meet many members of the marketing team. Lexi’s goal was to expose me to the different aspects of the marketing division while hearing each member’s unique story of how they ended up where they are today. With each interview, I not only develop a deeper understanding of Destination Cleveland’s staff and what they do, but also the marketing and digital media industry as well. My first one-on-one meeting was with Felia Mano, DC’s Media Producer. She studied film at Montclair State University and continued to cultivate her passion in post-production by working on small film productions. Her story about how she gradually moved from a post-production executive to a producer captivated me since I am pursuing a film career in college as well. Her insight into the film and television industry and describing how she uses her film knowledge at Destination Cleveland allowed me to imagine a future for myself and the possibilitie...

Blog #4 - Start of Something New

My first few days with Destination Cleveland were jam-packed! Thursday and Friday were my introduction to working with Destination Cleveland. Their offices are on the corner of Euclid Avenue and East 4th Street, which means I am at the heart of Downtown Cleveland. This was definitely a change of pace since I mostly worked remotely with my previous mentor. Lucky for me, Thursdays are the busiest days for Destination Cleveland since everyone is in the office for in-person meetings. I started the day strong with a meeting with the entire marketing team. This included the digital marketing team, public relations, and multiple other interns. Marie Scalia, Chief Marketing Officer for Destination Cleveland, managed the meeting, whose main goal was to highlight upcoming events and projects and update the team on each project division’s progress towards marketing these events. While observing the meeting, I was able to recognize the structure of a professional gathering. Surprisingly, I n...

Blog #3 - Changing Course

After thoughtful consideration I have decided to diverge from my original Hawken Project to pursue an internship with Destination Cleveland. The past few days have made me realize what is important to me and what my true goals for my Hawken Project are. After multiple Zoom calls with my previous mentor, I realized that the project was going in a different direction than what I had originally planned. I knew that I wanted to explore more than what was offered to me during my time with EZ Media Productions. With the help of my mom, I was able to contact members of Destination Cleveland who were able to offer me an internship opportunity that provided both remote and in-person experiences. From this experience, I was able to understand the importance of staying true to my own end goals and being willing to do anything to achieve those goals, even if it means shifting from my original vision. Part of the process of transitioning from EZ Media Productions to Destination Cleveland was ...

Blog #2 - First Few Days With EZ Media Productions

Image
For my first three days working with EZ Media Productions, I worked remotely from home. Every day I had a Zoom meeting with my mentor, David Torres, to go over our schedule for the week and the tasks I needed to complete for each day. David introduced me to how EZ Media Productions edits real estate photos for their clients. These photos included multiple angles of exterior shots. The variety of photos exposed me to the different ways in which his photography team captures a house for their client. The shots included drone footage, side angles, and wide shots. In addition to allowing me to view how they edit multiple angles of the same house differently, David also provided me with examples of houses in different climates. Some photos were taken in the winter with snow covering the house, and others were taken in overcast weather. Based on the weather conditions when the photos were taken, there are specific editing presets and tools that you would use to efficiently capture the home i...
