Blog #1- A Preview into My Internship with EZ Media Productions

Hello! My name is Carmen Cicerini. I am a senior at Hawken School. During the last three weeks of May I will be participating in a Senior Hawken Project. For my senior project, I will be interning at EZ Media Productions in Westlake, OH. I discovered this opportunity through a mutual friend. I knew that for my senior project I wanted to work within the film and media industry.

Throughout high school I have enrolled in filmmaking courses, taken photos for the spring musical and sporting events, and created videography content for different events. After Hawken, I will be attending New York University for film and television.  I decided to pursue this opportunity at EZ Media Productions because I believe it will help me gain experience within the videography and photography industry, while also understanding how to use these tools to market to different clients and companies. This senior project combines both my interests in media, business, and marketing. My hope for this project is to broaden my skills in media production so that I could possibly use them in the future. I also hope that working at EZ Media Productions can result in a potential job opportunity for the summer. My mentor, David Torres, will be instructing me how to properly shoot with a camera and shoot videos for different real estate clients.


In addition to gaining videography and photography experience, I will learn more about the real estate industry and how to analyze different marketing strategies that match the needs of EZ Media Productions’ clients. My experience in media is mostly directed towards narrative films and free-lance photography, but my senior project will provide me a glimpse into a specific industry that uses videography and photography to benefit their clients. By the end of my senior project, I hope to be more well versed in how to edit photos, properly light portraits, use a gimbal, and work with a wide range of clients. These hard and soft skills will be useful for future work that I may participate in, while also acquiring insightful knowledge of business analytics. My essential questions that I hope to be answered during my senior project is, “How do businesses use media and photography as a way to benefit their business?” and “What tools are necessary to create quality content for clients?”.

Throughout this week I have been working hard to complete my project with Destination Cleveland. My responsibility is to take videos and photos of the districts in Downtown Cleveland. This included Cleveland State University all the way to The Flats. Every day I needed to create an itinerary for each restaurant and attraction I will visit. The purpose of this project is to show potential visitors and future residents the hidden gems of Cleveland. I took the videos and photos on my phone to showcase Cleveland in an authentic and relatable way. This helps the audience picture themselves traveling to Cleveland without the superficial marketing feel. Blog #8 - Final Reflection

  As I reflect on my senior Hawken project, I am proud of the progress I have made and my development within the film and marketing industry. When I first started my journey as an intern for EZ Media Productions, I envisioned myself learning more about the technical aspects of videography and photography with the intent to use what I’ve learned for my own photography business. However, after a few Zoom sessions and participating in activities with my mentor, I realized that the project was going in a direction that didn’t suit my interests. I made the tough decision to pivot my project and search for an alternative option. With the help of the mom, I found an in-person opportunity with Destination Cleveland. With this opportunity, I was able to explore my interests in videography, photography, business while also promoting the city I love. Blog #3 - Changing Course

  After thoughtful consideration I have decided to diverge from my original Hawken Project to pursue an internship with Destination Cleveland. The past few days have made me realize what is important to me and what my true goals for my Hawken Project are. After multiple Zoom calls with my previous mentor, I realized that the project was going in a different direction than what I had originally planned. I knew that I wanted to explore more than what was offered to me during my time with EZ Media Productions. With the help of my mom, I was able to contact members of Destination Cleveland who were able to offer me an internship opportunity that provided both remote and in-person experiences. From this experience, I was able to understand the importance of staying true to my own end goals and being willing to do anything to achieve those goals, even if it means shifting from my original vision.
